Selecting a Job Default for a Design

Selecting a job default is a key step in constructing a design because the active job default generally controls facility attribute values, facility placement properties (including geometry offsets), and connectivity rules for facilities when you assign them to work locations.

There are two ways to select the job default for a design:

  • By selecting a job default from the list of job defaults displayed in the Job box on the New Design dialog box. This setting applies to the design permanently but can be temporarily overridden when the design is open in the Design Assistant. An override applies only to the current design session.
  • By selecting a job default from the list of job defaults displayed in the Job Default box of the Design Assistant. This setting temporarily changes the job default for the current design session, allowing you to place groups of features with different sets of job defaults.

A design's active job default is reflected in the characteristics and behaviors of the feature types that you assign from the Features Catalog unless you have overridden certain job default settings by editing individual items in the catalog.
